John Hope Bryant Mission Statement

  • "There is a difference between broke and being poor. Being broke is a temporary economic condition, but being poor is a disabling frame of mind and a depressed condition of your spirit, and you must vow to never, ever be poor again."
  • My vision for the poor, the under-served, and the wealthless of the world is to help them see themselves -- differently. We can do this by helping to expose, to educate, to empower, and ultimately to inspire them. To help them become "dreamers, with shovels in their own hands," quoting my friend Dr. Dorothy Height.
  • To see themselves for what and who they truly already are; rich in spirit. Assets, and not liabilities on the world's global balance sheet.
  • Because, I have seen, time and again, that given an informed choice, the poor do not want a hand out, but simply a hand up. They want the dignity that comes from doing for self.
  • That education is the ultimate poverty eradication tool, and when you know better, you tend to do better.
  • Moving from civil rights to silver rights. From integrating the lunch counter, to integrating the dollar too.
  • That low-wealth communities, the world over, represent future emerging markets waiting to be born. That one person can make a diference, and we are that one person. That we are all accountable and responsible for the world we live in, because it is literally the world we create. A little hope can make the difference.

John,
As a forty-nine year old white guy in Madison, WI what can I do to help?
I am self-employed, a former econ major, who has started a couple of businesses and if possible I would like to help provide financial education to the youger generation.

Nathan J. Gagnon

Hi. I am curious about how I can volunteer in the silver rights movement. Currently, I do tax returns and my other strength was financial analysis. I am hoping that I can put my financial skills to use. In a way, I hope to be somewhat of a financial architect; building from the ground up. That would bring me greater pleasure than an individual who comes to me with money to invest. I would love to start with a person who has credit card debt and help them develop their financial literacy. I really think the same habits they engage to pay off the debt can help them develop wealth, at least that is my hope. I think that most people who get a larger salary increase the fixed costs of their life by changing their lifestyle (moving into a bigger home, etc.) I think that financial literacy can be inherently good, especially for African Americans whom could benefit from wealth creation. Take care.

Nathan

Dear JHB

You have a powerful way with words and may God continue to lead and guide you as you fulfill the vision he has given you. There is truly a nexus of your vision and mine.
I'm the principal of the oldest still existing Christian school closest to our nation's capitol, which is now populated with over 300 African Americans from K-12. These economically advantaged students will be the next leaders of our churches, corporations and educational and financial institutions.
The mission that I have for you, if you decide to accept it, is to play just a small part in inspiring these young people to live for God and influence the world through exceptional educational experiences.
I believe that God has raised you up for such a time as this, and you can assist me in my God given responsibility of raising up and army of spiritually wealthy, economically wealthy, educationally wealthy, and financially wealthy young people who will not only make this life count for Christ, but the life to come.
If you are interested and up to the challenge, I would love to have you as our schools next year’s commencement speaker. You can contact me at 301-336-2200 ext 221.
Dr. David W. Gadson, Principal Capitol Christian Academy

Chris Harper

John-
My name is Chris Harper and I'm a 31 year old African American. I currently live in Hampon Roads area of Virginia. I'm writing because I'm tired of seeing our young black males kill one another. I'm currently in the process of writing a proposal to educate the youth of the community through education, recreation, and leadership. I know I'm going to be successful because I know this is my "CALLING". Thanks for your inspirational message.

John-

Since accidentally stumbling across information about your Banking On Our Future program, I have been completely consumed with joy and excitement on how I can help. In the past 2 weeks, I have thoroughly researched all of the entire Operation Hope initiatives as if my life depended on it. I have applied for an open position, signed up to be a volunteer and solicited for money from my financial corporation in which my agency is linked. It is baffling to me how quickly and intensely all of this energy and inner enthusiasm has built up inside of me, but my quest for involvement must be some kind of calling on my life.

Thanks for all you do! This information has truly been a blessing to me, so that I may a blessing to others.

Sincerely,
Kye
