LOS ANGELES – June 26, 2014 – John Hope Bryant, bestselling author and founder of Operation HOPE (HOPE), led the “Financial Opportunity” working group session at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America meeting in Denver, June 23-25. The social entrepreneur also reported that 1,000 commitments were made during Phase I for HOPE’s seven month CGI commitment to action in support of Project 5117.
“Operation HOPE is proud to announce the results for Project 5117 in support of our Clinton Global Initiative America Commitment to Action,” said Bryant, who recently wrote the popular new book, How the Poor Can Save Capitalism. “Today, we are pleased to report that we have collected 1,000 commitments for Project 5117. As a CGI mega commitment to action maker, we have engaged people across the United States who are passionate about liberating underserved Americans from poverty to make a commitment to HOPE’s Project 5117.”
Operation HOPE announced its new CGI commitment to action during the HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit, last November. As a CGI mega-commitment to action maker, HOPE has worked to secure additional commitments from people and businesses throughout the US who are interested in helping support Project 5117.
One such example of these commitments is the partnership with the American Bankers Association. The ABA and HOPE work together to provide mutual support for their respective CGI America Commitments to Action. A commitment can range from becoming a Business Role Model volunteer to a HOPE Business In A Box student, to a corporate sponsor (such as a financial institution) funding a HOPE Inside location in underserved communities across the US.
