Saluting Operation HOPE's Own Lance Triggs

 

Lance William Triggs currently serves as Chief Executive Officer, Operation HOPE-Los Angeles, and Division President, HOPE Financial Dignity Centers.

Under Triggs’ leadership, HOPE has successfully modified and  loaned over $850 million in loans to small businesses, first time home buyers and home owners in crisis, committed over $1.4 billion in investments and 1.4 million customers served in 71 under-served communities across the United States and 3 provinces in South Africa in the form of youth and adult financial literacy (over 550,000 educated), money, credit and foreclosure prevention management counseling, small business technical assistance, digital empowerment initiatives, mortgage and business lending capital to first time home buyers and entrepreneurs.

Mr. Triggs also initially served as a project lead for the Bush-Clinton Hurricane Disaster relief initiative for HOPE.  To date, Operation HOPE Inc’s Project Restore HOPE campaign has assisted over 110,000 Hurricane Katrina victims, provided over $500,000 in disaster relief fund grants, provided $8 million in Earn Income Tax Credits and $14 million tax refunds for Hurricane Katrina victims.

In 2011, Mr. Triggs served a Project Manager for the “Rebirth of America” HOPE Financial Literacy Forum held at the NYSE Euronext on Wall Street in New York City that featured keynote speakers White House Executive Director of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, NYSE Euronext CEO Duncan Niederauer, CNBC Anchor Maria Bartiromo, Financial Services Roundtable President and CEO Steve Bartlett, Gallup, Inc. CEO Jim Clifton, and Executive Director of the White House Business Council Ari Matusiak.

This week I had the opportunity and pleasure of keynote speaking before more than 7,000 young leaders, their advocates and parents in Orlando, Florida at the 2012 annual conference of the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).  

I spoke about their responsibility (fully 90% of these students graduate college, in comparison to the rest of American students that graduate at a 30-70% rate), their opportunity (they are on fire, full of confidence and have their entire lives ahead of them), but also their challenges.  As hard as they try to diversify, they are still more than 70% majority and rural in their membership (this is not a criticism, just a fact of how the organization has developed, and its base).  The world is increasingly diverse, and our future American leadership must reflect this fact, if America will rise to the occassion of leading the world again well into the 21st century.  During my remarks I made the case that all of our DNA is about 99% identical, and yet most of us obsess about the 1/4th of 1% that defines eye color, hair color and texture, skin color and texture and the like.  We focus most of our energy on the things that matter the least.  

I am so proud to report that this incredible group rose to the ocassion, cheering and encouraging the message of diversity and simularity -- and our one world message and meaning. Most of all, I was thrilled when they cheered after I proclaimed 'America to be the most incredible nation on the planet.'  They must believe this more than anyone else, because they are literally our future.

Newly minted HOPE Fellows had the unique and special opportunity to be with former U.S. President William Jefferson Clinton this week in Washington, D.C.   HOPE Fellows featured here include Chris Robinson, Alaina Reaves and Katherine Trujillo.  All three work with Jena Roscoe in her HOPE Office of Government Relations and Public Policy in Washington, D.C., covering a range of specialized focus areas.
