A moving testimonial from an attendee of the Operation HOPE, Atlanta "Super Saturday" event with V-103 Radio Station here, pretty much says it all. This is why we do what we do.
A special kudos to James Bailey, market vice president for Operation HOPE in the Southeast Region, whose team pulled together this amazing day for our community. Jay was particularly moved by this woman's testimonial. I understand why.
Be inspired. Let's go.

At an event hosted by Trice Edney Communications and Trice Edney News Wire, actress, businesswoman and community giver Omarosa received the 2011 Love Leadership Award, during the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., along with comedian and activist Dick Gregory.
Inspired by my 2010 bestselling business book LOVE LEADERSHIP: The New Way to Live in a Fear-Based World (Jossey-bass), but not connected to or associated directly with author John Hope Bryant or the book directly, the Love Leadership Awards were designed as a salute to the 5 Laws of Love Leadership in the book, and inspiration around the book's focus on "a new way to lead in a fear-based world."

The following note made it to my desk recently, from a young man (who will remain unidentified) from the recent Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend I spoke at earlier this year. It speaks for itself.
"Hi Mr. Bryant,
I really Appreciate you getting back to me. Growing up into being a young black man is tough and my past habits are not helping me move forward to be honest. I'm not a stupid kid but my grades don't show it, I've made some very uneducated decisions that got me in trouble, and getting out of this hole that I am in now is stressful. I contacted you awhile ago because while out in Texas your words gave me a sort of rejoice and motivation in my life, which was something I've never really had. For a few weeks straight I was breaking down almost everyday, and I remembered the feeling I had during your speech, and said to myself I don't want to hit rock bottom. And having you to be someone to look up to at this point in my life is something that I need. So again I'm really glad that you could take some time out of your schedule to even respond it means a lot. Thank You."
If you ever doubt that giving your time and talents to young people, serving as a volunteer role model or mentor, is making any difference at all, come back and read this note one more time. All 100 of these young men sat there emotionless as I spoke, yet I gave them everything I had. Looks like they were giving me everything they had, too.
One person can make a difference. Be that one person. Give one hour a month, 12 months a year to make a difference in someone's life. Become a HOPE Corps volunteer today at www.operationhope.org.

Tyler Perry and Ofelia de La Valette to serve as keynote speakers;
All-day forum scheduled for Friday, July 29 at the Woodruff Arts Center to focus
on job creation and access to capital for local entrepreneurs
ATLANTA – Mayor Kasim Reed, The White Office Business Council and The White House Office of Public Engagement on Wednesday announced the keynote speakers and full program details for the Atlanta Urban Entrepreneurship Forum scheduled for Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Woodruff Arts Center.
Tyler Perry, founder of Tyler Perry Studios, and Ofelia de la Valette, founder and owner of Dance 101, will serve as the keynote speakers during the all-day event. The purpose of the forum is to support job growth and foster economic success for local entrepreneurs. The event will include a live pitch competition hosted by 100 Urban Entrepreneurs in which the winner will receive $10,000 in startup financing and eight weeks of business mentoring.
“Atlanta has a rich legacy and tradition of supporting urban entrepreneurs, especially small, minority and women-owned businesses,” said Mayor Reed. “In collaboration with President Barack Obama’s goals to grow the economy and put people back to work, today’s forum offers a unique opportunity to initiate a dialogue on the future of innovation in the urban community. When entrepreneurs are allowed to capitalize on opportunities and are appropriately assisted by the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, they are able to create jobs and reinvigorate our local economy.”

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Raycom Media of Birmingham, Alabama for their recent commitment to run a series of HOPE Communications produced television spots in support of our HOPE Coalition America (HCA) division, active in response to the Southern storms recovery effort.
HCA is the national partner with DHS/FEMA for emergency financial and disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and we are deeply concerned that individuals, families and small businesses (and particularly most at risk minority small businesses) are not signing up and registering with FEMA and the SBA to receive the services and resources they deserve, in rebuilding their lives. Approximately only 10% of those who might qualify for support, in Alabama alone, have registered to date. The current cut off deadline for registering in Alabama is July 18th, 2011, unless the Governor extends it.
Raycom is currently running HCA spots from HOPE Global Spokesman and civil rights iconAmbassador Andrew Young, as well as HOPE Advisor Martin Luther King, III, CEO of the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia. These spots, produced by Emmy award winning director and producer CB Hackworth, encourages those impacted by the Southern storms to register with FEMA and SBA, TODAY, and to get the resources they both need and deserve. Soon HOPE Partner Premiere Radio Network, which has 5,000 national radio affiliates across the country, will also begin running radio spots to encourage survivors to register, as well as professionals across the country to become Virtual HOPE Corps volunteers to help. More on the later effort to come.
For any individual or small business impacted by the Southern Storms, please contact FEMA, or HCA and Operation HOPE at 888 388 HOPE, or go online.
Onward with HOPE

Professional football player and philanthropist Chris Draft, founder of the Chris Draft Foundation, spent some quality time (one of many ocassions) providing mentoring, encouragement and support to youth, adult and HOPE Leaders alike over the past 2-years.
This particular appearance at our Operation HOPE, South Los Angeles office (HOPE Financial Literacy Empowerment Center, Los Angeles) was tied to the "United We Serve" campaign.
The world needs more leaders, and role models, like Chris Draft. Chris will play a role in our 5MK movement in weeks and months to come.
