About Drue Kataoka

Drue Kataoka is a contemporary artist based in Silicon Valley. Born in Tokyo and originally trained in Sumi-e. Named a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Has presented at the WEF Annual Meetings in Davos (thrice) and in Dalian, and had a solo exhibition at Davos in 2012. Her work was featured at the first art exhibit in zero gravity at the International Space Station. Artworks have integrated Asian brush painting techniques with mirrors, time dilation & brainwaves. New forms developed by Kataoka are Magic Boxes (where a painting is hidden inside a box, visible only in fragments through reflections in mirror shards) and Membranes (where the artwork creates a semi-reflective/semi-transparent lens for the viewer to look at/through the world). Recent work has been featured on CNN, CBS, ABC, Barrons, Wired Magazine, and others. Endowed the Drue Kataoka Art Scholarship for Youth since 2001. Graduate of Stanford University. Recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute Award for her extensive community service.
